  5. Dig deep; if you’re on the beginner programme avoid any big hills at first.

Tips for walking downhill

  1. Going downhill, your stride will naturally lengthen. Whilst over striding when walking on a flat surface is bad, when going downhill it will actually help you to brake slightly as gravity keeps you moving faster.
  2. Relax and let your steps flow
  3. If things get a little crazy, shorten your stride and this should help you balance.
  4. Stay upright you will increase chance of injury leaning backwards.
  5. If it is a very steep downhill, then you might want to lean forward a little for greater stability; keep your knees slightly bent at all times.
