Stay On Your Diet Plan During The Festive Season
The month of October and Halloween are the indicators of the holiday season coming into focus. The average person in the United Kingdom usually takes on at least ten pounds from Halloween until New Year's Day. There are some important things to ensure you are not one of those individuals again this year. Let us begin with Halloween. As this time comes into view, we anticipate the dressing up and the candy that comes with it. There are so many treats out their to tempt us as we walk down the seasonal isle at the local grocery store. Most of us are enticed by the sweet smells of chocolate and other delightful confections. To keep yourself in control of your cravings and to continue your fitness goals there are a few things you can do to help yourself resist these temptations during this time of year.
Remember, if you must have it, keep it to one serving only and choose the best candies and chocolates for your serving. This allows you the ability to work it into your food plan an still have fun during the Halloween fun but still be able to stay on the right road to health.
First, you must keep reminding yourself of the goals you are trying to reach with a healthy life. When in the moment of temptation, you can forget the unlimited goal of being healthier and losing weight. It seems to slip your mind when you are trying to lose weight or what program you are working with when faced with such wonderful temptations. Before the holiday season begins, routinely tell yourself over and over how wonderful it is going to be when you finally reach your weight loss goal. You will be feeling more confident about yourself and definitely more energetic. What do you think of yourself right now? Why are you trying to loose weight? Keep reminding yourself of this over and over so you will make good choices in these difficult situations.
Second, watch the amount you eat, the servings and portions of even healthy foods will need to be worked into your food plan to keep you aware of what you are eating and provide balance in your nutritional needs. You might start by labeling your foods in a good and bad category but make sure each portion or serving fits within your goals.
Third, make the plan and stay with it. Many individuals including yourself, can reach out for the treat when you are near something good. Each little bite you take can add up to hundreds of extra calories before you even realize it is happening. Make a plan before you begin the festivities and put a few teats into your food plan to make it easy to keep track and to lower the amount of calories you are eating. If you are having a get together fro others or are simply putting candy in a dish to give out to the kids, take a few pieces out and place them in a separate dish for yourself. You will not be deprived of the treats but when these are gone, you know that is it and you can not add any more.
Fourth, keep the all or nothing attitude out of your life. There is nothing perfect in life and this is the time when individuals tend to go overboard with their eating. Do not allow yourself to think that because you took too much of something and because your food plan for the day is already shot that you can eat whatever you want for the rest of the day. This mentality seems to go beyond the day and run until after the first of January when resolutions bring us back into focus for weight loss. The food plan needs to be started again the next day after the slip and a few extra minutes of exercise would work to balance things out nicely and get rid of the extra pounds you gained in the process.
Fifth, take a look at what you have in your Halloween candy bowl. You can make a big difference in managing your weight through the holiday season. You need to understand that just because it is healthy does not mean it has a lower amount of calories in it. It also does not mean you can eat more if you want to.
Sixth, choose candy that you do not like. This will give you the incentive to stay out of the bowl. Without your favorites, you will not pass by the bowl and grab some of the candy. You can also choose to stay away from candy altogether and give out healthy treats like boxes of raisins or fruit snacks instead.
Finally, make the treats for your Halloween guests low calorie. This would be something like popcorn, gummy bears, licorice, or fruit. The choices, no matter what they are, need to be in small portion packages instead of the regular packaging. If you must give out chocolate, give out the mini bars instead of the original sizes. Again, no matter what you choose, remove your allotted amount for yourself. The best idea is to give out items that are not food items. The day is really for the kids so help them be healthy by offering them neat toys or other fun little items to keep them occupied and away from the sweets.
Halloween need not be a time of food plan disasters. Keep your eye on the prize and think how great it will be when you finally reach your weigh loss goals. You will look wonderful and by next years Halloween celebration, you can still enjoy your treats in moderation but be able to wear an amazing Halloween costume to show off your new body and fitness level. You might even be invited to a party or two where you can allow your new confident self show through. You will owe it all to the control in keeping the food plan goals you have set for yourself this year.
